K12 Peak is in the Saltoro Muztagh (sub-range of Karakorum Mountains) in Gilgit-Baltistan near Jammu Kashmir, Pakistan. It is the world’s 61st highest peak and Pakistan’s 24th highest peak at an elevation of the 7,428 m (24,370 ft). K12 Peak lies near the Line of Control between Pakistan and India border in the Siachen Glacier region.
Due to military presence in the area, there have not been many attempts to the top of the summit or near the basecamp. The first successful attempt to the summit took place in 1971 by a Japanese Expedition that comprised of Shinichi Takagi and Tsutomu who fell to their deaths on descent.
K12 Peak lies in the Saltoro Muztagh which is a subrange of the Karakorums near the Siachen Glacier in Jammu and Kashmir.This subrange is home to four above 7,000m+ peaks. This is the heart of the Karakorum mountains. The Karakorum Mountain Range is a massive chain of mountains across Pakistan and China that hosts one of the greatest mountains of the including K2.
It is 500km long and 200km wide and connects with Hindukush and Himalaya Mountains at few points. This area is important because it falls in three different countries: India, Pakistan and China.
K12 Peak expedition is a journey through the giant Karakorum Mountains of Pakistan with mesmerizing views of the mighty greyh-back mountains and huge glaciers which are also one of the largest and highest in the world.The trek starts from Askole via Skardu district which is the nearest town to the mountains.
