This trek links the Chogolungma Glacier in Shigar with the Haramosh valley near Gilgit. From Arandu you walk up the glacier past Spantik to the camp below Laila Peak (Haramosh), cross the Haramosh La at about 4,800 m on snow and ice, and descend to Kutwal Lake and Sassi on the Indus. This Laila Peak is a different mountain from the famous Laila Peak in the Hushe valley. The crossing is serious and needs crampons and sometimes fixed ropes.
