Rakaposhi (7,788 m) is the 27th highest mountain in the world and stands in the Rakaposhi Haramosh mountains in Nagar, above the Hunza valley. It is famous for its huge relief, rising about 5,800 m from the valley. It was first climbed on 25 June 1958 by Mike Banks and Tom Patey of a British Pakistani forces expedition, via the south west spur and ridge. We approach from Minapin through the Minapin Glacier to Base Camp at Tagaphari.

Day 2Expedition briefing in IslamabadOfficial expedition briefing at the Ministry of Tourism with the Alpine Club of Pakistan, final paperwork, gear check and last shopping. Overnight in hotel.
Day 3Fly to Gilgit (1,500 m) and drive to Minapin (2,000 m)Flight to Gilgit (or the Karakoram Highway if cancelled), then about 2 hours by road to Minapin village in Nagar. Overnight in hotel.
Day 4Minapin: final preparationsRepack loads and meet the porters. Overnight in hotel.
Day 5Trek from Minapin to Hapakun (about 2,900 m)About 4 hours along the Minapin Glacier through juniper forest. Overnight in tent.
Day 6Trek to Tagaphari Base Camp (about 3,500 m)About 3 hours to the beautiful meadow of Tagaphari below Rakaposhi and Diran. Overnight in tent.
Day 7 to 28Climbing period on Rakaposhi (7,788 m)We climb the south west spur and ridge, the route of the first ascent, with three or four high camps on long snow and ice slopes, after acclimatisation rotations.
Day 29Trek down to MinapinClean up Base Camp and walk down to Minapin. Overnight in hotel.
