Latok I (7,145 m) is the highest summit of the Latok group in the Panmah Muztagh. It was first climbed in 1979 by a Japanese expedition led by Naoki Takada, from the south. Its north ridge, first tried by Jim Donini, Michael Kennedy, George Lowe and Jeff Lowe in 1978, became one of the most famous unsolved lines in the world. In 2018 Aleš Česen, Luka Stražar and Tom Livingstone made the first ascent of Latok I from the north. Base Camp for the north side is on the Choktoi Glacier, reached from Askole via the Dumordo and Panmah valleys.
